The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment in residential, commercial, or industrial facilities. The role involves ensuring that all electrical installations are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with national electrical codes, organizational standards, and health and safety regulations. The Electrician will diagnose electrical faults, carry out preventive and corrective maintenance, test electrical systems, and provide technical support to ensure uninterrupted operation of electrical infrastructure. The position requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, lighting systems, power outlets, switches, circuit breakers, distribution boards, and electrical equipment.
- Read, interpret, and implement electrical drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Inspect electrical systems to identify faults, hazards, and maintenance needs.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical problems using appropriate testing equipment.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
- Install and connect electrical appliances, motors, generators, and other electrical components as required.
- Test completed electrical installations to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, organizational procedures, and occupational health and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and materials used.
- Monitor electrical equipment performance and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Respond promptly to electrical emergencies and system breakdowns.
- Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of electrical tools, instruments, and equipment.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free from safety hazards.
- Coordinate with engineers, technicians, and other project staff during installation and maintenance activities.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Site Supervisor or Project Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Installation, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Good knowledge of electrical systems, wiring methods, and safety regulations.
- Experience working with electrical testing and measuring instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical manuals.
