JOB VACANCY: Tree Nursery Management and Urban Greening Trainer

Position Title: Tree Nursery Management and Urban Greening Trainer/Teacher
Location Requirement: Applicants must live in Balcad.

1. Job Purpose

The Tree Nursery Management and Urban Greening Trainer will provide theoretical and practical training to students in tree nursery establishment, seed collection, seedling production, plant care, landscaping, and urban greening. The trainer will equip students with practical skills that support environmental conservation, climate resilience, employment, and green entrepreneurship.

2. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver lessons on tree nursery establishment and management.
• Train students in seed collection, seed selection, germination, propagation, and seedling production.
• Demonstrate nursery preparation, watering, transplanting, pruning, and plant health management.
• Teach soil preparation, composting, sustainable irrigation, and efficient water use.
• Train students in tree planting, landscaping, urban greening, and maintenance of green spaces.
• Explain the role of trees in biodiversity conservation, soil protection, shade, and climate adaptation.
• Organize practical nursery activities, field demonstrations, and tree-planting exercises.
• Teach students how to plan and manage small nursery enterprises.
• Monitor student learning, assess practical skills, and maintain training records.
• Prepare lesson plans, training materials, attendance records, and training reports.
• Promote locally appropriate tree species and sustainable environmental practices.

3. Required Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor's Degree in Forestry, Horticulture, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
• A certificate or recognized qualification in Tree Nursery Management, Horticulture, Forestry, Landscaping, or a related skill area.
• At least two (2) years of experience as a teacher or trainer in forestry, horticulture, nursery management, environmental conservation, or a related field.
• Must currently live in Balcad, Somalia.
• Demonstrated ability to teach students through classroom lessons and hands-on practical training.
• Good communication, facilitation, organizational, and student assessment skills.

4. Preferred Qualifications

• Additional professional certification in nursery management, horticulture, forestry, landscaping, or urban greening.
• Experience in environmental conservation, tree-planting initiatives, and community greening programs.
• Experience in vocational training and green enterprise development.
